Tri-County Health Department (TCHD) embarked on a process in partnership with Adams County Planning and Development Department in 2013 to conduct an HIA in close coordination with the Federal Boulevard Framework Plan. The purpose of the HIA was to assess the potential impact that the plan’s policies would have on health and to provide recommendations to maximize positive health outcomes through the corridor planning process. TCHD consulted existing data, collected new community data and conducted a literature review to provide recommendations to improve health outcomes.
University of Colorado, Denver – Studio Course Collaboration
TCHD partnered with University of Colorado at Denver’s College of Architecture and Planning to complete an inventory of existing pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure. This data collection was part of a UCD studio course aimed at exposing students to a practical analysis of health in land use planning and played a strong supporting role in the HIA.
